Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of MarkFlow. They're written in plain English on purpose. By using the service you're agreeing to them. If you don't, please don't use MarkFlow.
Last updated: May 19, 2026.
1. Who you're agreeing with
MarkFlow is operated by Schoedel Design (“we,” “us”), an independent studio based in Texas, United States. “You” means the person or organization using MarkFlow.
2. What MarkFlow is
MarkFlow is a web-based and browser-extension tool that converts documents (PDF, Word, HTML, plain text) into Markdown and back. Some features use Google Gemini for AI-assisted understanding; others use deterministic open-source converters in your browser. The full data flow is described in our Privacy Policy.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use MarkFlow. If you're under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you must have a parent or guardian's permission. By using the service you represent that you meet these requirements.
4. Accounts
Most of MarkFlow works without an account. Some features — server-managed PDF conversion, scanned-PDF OCR, increased limits, and your own Gemini key — require you to sign in with a Google account. You're responsible for the activity that happens under your account. If you suspect your account has been compromised, tell us.
5. Bring-your-own Gemini key
If you add your own Google Gemini API key, you remain responsible for that key, its usage, and any costs Google bills you. We pass the key to Google only as needed to fulfill your conversion requests, and we store it as described in the Privacy Policy. We can't refund Gemini usage billed by Google.
6. Your content
You own the documents and text you submit. By submitting them, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and transmit them solely for the purpose of providing the conversion service to you. That license ends when we delete the content (see the retention table in our Privacy Policy) or when you ask us to delete it — whichever comes first.
You represent that you have the rights to submit whatever you upload, and that doing so does not violate anyone else's intellectual-property, privacy, or other rights.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to use MarkFlow to:
- Upload anything illegal, infringing, defamatory, or harassing.
- Upload other people's personal data without a lawful basis to do so.
- Upload malware, exploit payloads, or content designed to attack our infrastructure or third-party services.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, overload, or otherwise abuse the service or its underlying providers (Google Cloud, Gemini, Firebase).
- Resell or repackage MarkFlow as your own service without written permission.
- Bypass our rate limits, allowance limits, or access controls.
We may suspend or terminate access for any account that violates these rules, and we may report unlawful activity to the appropriate authorities.
8. Third-party services
MarkFlow relies on Google Gemini and Google Cloud / Firebase to operate. Your use of those services through MarkFlow is also subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We're not responsible for outages, behavior, or pricing changes upstream.
9. Our intellectual property
MarkFlow itself — the software, design, copy, and branding — belongs to Schoedel Design. These terms don't grant you any license to that, other than the right to use the service as intended.
10. Service availability and changes
MarkFlow is offered on an as-is, as-available basis. We're a small studio: we may add, change, or remove features; pause the service for maintenance; or shut it down entirely. We'll try to give reasonable notice for material changes, but we don't promise any particular uptime, latency, or feature set.
11. No warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by law, MarkFlow and everything related to it is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy of converted output. AI models can and do produce mistakes; check anything important before relying on it.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Schoedel Design be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of MarkFlow — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to MarkFlow will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars ($100), or the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months preceding the claim, whichever is greater.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Schoedel Design and its owners from any third-party claims arising out of (a) content you submitted, (b) your violation of these terms, or (c) your violation of any law or third-party right.
14. Termination
You can stop using MarkFlow at any time. We can suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you've violated these terms or that your use puts the service or other users at risk. On termination, sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and the law/venue sections below) will survive.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, surface a notice in the app. Your continued use of MarkFlow after a change means you accept the updated terms.
16. Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from or relating to these terms or your use of MarkFlow will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to personal jurisdiction and venue there.
