Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the things people ask most. Don't see your question? Email barry@schoedeldesign.ai.

What file types does MarkFlow support?

MarkFlow converts PDF, Microsoft Word (.docx), and HTML into Markdown, and renders Markdown back into PDF, Word, or HTML. Plain text and rich-text inputs are also supported.

Is MarkFlow free?

Yes. The public converter is free. If you bring your own Google Gemini API key, requests go straight from your browser to Google and there are no MarkFlow-side limits.

What are the size limits for public PDF conversion?

Public PDF-to-Markdown is limited to 10 MB and 25 pages. Larger files require our robust backend tools. For increased access, email barry@schoedeldesign.ai with the subject "Markflow Increased Access".

Which AI model does MarkFlow use?

MarkFlow uses Google Gemini for document understanding and structure-aware conversion. Other formats use deterministic open-source converters where AI isn't needed.

Are my documents stored or used to train models?

We don't train AI models on your documents, and we don't sell your data. If you're not signed in, files are processed in your browser and never touch our servers. For approved server-managed conversions, your PDF and the resulting Markdown are stored in a private bucket scoped to your account and scheduled for deletion within 30 days — or sooner if you ask. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.

Can I use my own Gemini API key?

Yes. Sign in and add your Gemini API key in the profile menu. With your own key, requests bypass the MarkFlow backend entirely and go directly from your browser to Google.

Does MarkFlow handle scanned PDFs?

OCR for scanned or image-only PDFs is being rolled out to approved users first. If your PDF contains selectable text it converts normally today. For scanned-document access, email barry@schoedeldesign.ai with the subject "Markflow Increased Access".

Does MarkFlow work offline or as a Chrome extension?

MarkFlow is built as a Progressive Web App and also has a Chrome extension build for in-browser conversions. AI-powered conversions require an internet connection to reach Google Gemini.

Where can I report a bug or request a feature?

Sign in and use the bug report button in the top-right corner, or email barry@schoedeldesign.ai directly.
